Minerva Schools, 2018
While a New York Times article considered if Minerva was "what college should look like in the 21st century" the new university we built was growing much more quickly than anyone expected.
How could our team possibly hire & train university staff fast enough to keep up with logistics and operational probelms involved in housing and educating a quickly growing student body in 7 countries all over the world. Our ability to scale quickly would make or break the business.
Rather than build software to support training and collaboration, my team focused on software to give our staff operational superpowers.
Updating internal tools might make tasks a bit easier for staff. Instead, my team focused on designing software to eliminate an entire class of problems.
I led a small team of engineers and university stakeholders through a 6 week sprint to build internal tools to automate tedious workflows so staff could focus on new higher order tasks. Doing this, we reduced the cost per student by 10x while tripling the number of students each year.
